How do I delete my account?
Use a signed-in WinTalk client:
- Open Me → Account & security → Delete account.
- Read and accept this Account Deletion Notice.
- Complete the on-screen eligibility checks (see “Conditions before deletion” below).
- Complete identity verification as prompted (e.g. email OTP / other second factor).
- After you confirm, the account enters a deletion cooling period; sessions on all devices are terminated. You must sign in again if you choose to restore.
Deletion must be confirmed by you on a signed-in account. Entering the cooling period is intentional; during the period you may still restore as described below. After the period ends and the account is fully deleted, self-service restore is not available.
What happens if I delete my account?
After you submit deletion, the account immediately enters a deletion cooling period (default 30 days, subject to then-current server config):
- You will no longer be able to use messaging on that account (all sessions are invalidated).
- Friends who try to message you in a one-to-one chat will typically see a notice such as that the user has been deleted and new messages cannot be sent; others usually cannot add you as a friend.
- Profile and account-side data will be deleted or anonymized per product rules after full deletion completes. Other people’s devices may still keep their local copies (e.g. messages they already received). If you need messages that can disappear for both sides, use in-chat delete options rather than relying on account deletion.
- If you hold roles or nodes that require handoff, the system may notify accounts with transfer permission; follow then-current product and admin prompts.
When the cooling period ends, the account becomes fully deleted:
- You cannot sign in or restore the account yourself.
- Signing up again creates a new user; history, friends, and node roles from the old account are not restored automatically.
- Bound identifiers such as email may remain reserved for a period after full deletion to reduce takeover risk, per service rules.
Logs already created on third-party systems (push, email, maps, etc.) usually cannot be erased by us; see the Third-Party Sharing List and the Privacy Policy.
How does the deletion cooling period work?
WinTalk does not make the account permanently unrecoverable the moment you tap confirm. You first enter a cooling period; full deletion follows when it expires.
| Stage | Meaning |
|---|---|
| During cooling | Account is frozen. If the account is not banned, completing a full sign-in (including any required second factor) restores it to normal. |
| After cooling | The server marks the account fully deleted; sign-in and self-service restore are blocked. |
| Cooling + ban | If the account is also banned, you cannot restore by signing in until the ban is lifted under applicable rules. |
Default length is 30 days, subject to deployment config. When cooling starts, the product notices that signing in and completing verification during the period can restore the account.
Conditions before deletion
If the pre-check fails, follow on-screen guidance and retry. Common blockers include:
- A super administrator cannot delete directly; transfer the super-admin role first.
- Accounts already in the cooling period or fully deleted cannot start deletion again.
- Banned or other restricted / unsafe states may block deletion.
- Remaining nodes you must personally hand over or dissolve must be handled in WinTalk first.
- Required second-factor verification (e.g. email OTP) must succeed.
The client’s then-current check results and error messages control.
Can I reduce data without deleting my account?
Yes. You can:
- Delete individual messages or chats (whether for both parties depends on the UI options);
- Edit or remove profile fields and avatars;
- Turn off location, notifications, camera, and similar permissions in system settings;
- Sign out or uninstall the app (uninstall is not deletion; the server account remains until you complete deletion or cooling ends in full deletion).
See the Privacy Policy for broader data practices.
